StreamLadder review: Twitch and Kick clip editor

StreamLadder review from published docs: ClipGPT for Twitch and Kick VODs, plan prices, watermark rules, refund windows and who should skip it.

StreamLadder is a web and mobile tool for turning Twitch, Kick and YouTube streams into vertical clips, and this StreamLadder review treats it as a real candidate for streamers: its AI clipper, ClipGPT, is pitched directly at VODs and it has a free plan and a 7-day trial. The catch is that ClipGPT starts on Creator, at $27 a month or $270 a year, so the free plan and the $15 Starter plan do not include the AI clipper.

Verdict in short

Shortlist StreamLadder if you stream on Twitch or Kick, want AI moment-finding and a vertical editor in one place, and $27 a month for Creator fits your budget. Hold off if you only need a free vertical editor, or if you need a published limit on VOD length. Start with the 7-day trial, which StreamLadder says includes ClipGPT, and treat the first charge carefully, because the refund window is short.

What StreamLadder says it does

StreamLadder’s homepage describes four main tools, plus a set of extras:

  • ClipGPT, which finds moments in VODs. The homepage headline is “Turn a 6-hour VOD into clips in minutes”.
  • Clip Editor, for reframing and editing vertical video in the browser.
  • Content Publisher, which schedules and posts to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
  • Analytics, for which clips drive growth.
  • Extras listed on the homepage: Montage Maker, Emote Maker, Schedule Maker, Clip Downloader and a mobile app on iOS and Google Play.

As of 8 November 2026, the homepage FAQ says the free plan includes the clip editor, converter and downloader, Content Publisher starts at the Starter plan, and ClipGPT starts at the Creator plan. Usage limits on the free plan are not stated.

How ClipGPT works, as documented

The ClipGPT page describes a three-step flow: paste a VOD link or upload a file, let it analyse the stream in the background, then crop, caption and publish.

  • Inputs. Paste a Twitch or Kick VOD URL. YouTube is worded differently: the page says “Upload your YouTube stream”, which suggests a file upload rather than a link. A separate line on the homepage says it works with Twitch, YouTube and Kick VODs, so check how YouTube works if that is your platform.
  • Detection. The page says it surfaces moments such as funny reactions, chat interactions and intense highlights. An October 2025 blog post by the company lists chat spikes, voice excitement, emotes and in-game events such as multi-kills and clutch wins. That is a year-old marketing post, and the current ClipGPT page does not repeat the in-game claim.
  • Marking moments live. You can say “clip that” or “clip this” while streaming, and those moments come out edited when you process the VOD.
  • Facecam. The page says AI finds your webcam and keeps your face positioned in each vertical crop, with support for VTubers.
  • Scoring and search. Each moment gets a 0 to 100 virality score. Transcript search lets you look for a word in the whole stream and jump to it.
  • Output. Clips are cropped to 9:16 with word-synced captions, hashtags and hook titles, and the page says highlights can be compiled into a YouTube video.

The 6-hour figure is an example in a headline, not a stated limit. Maximum VOD length and file size are not stated on the pages we read. What a credit or usage allowance looks like on ClipGPT is also not stated.

Reasoning, not a result: chat activity is a useful signal that transcript-led tools ignore, but it only helps if your chat is active. A small channel with a quiet chat may lean more on voice and on whatever in-game detection exists, so compare results on a busy stream and a quiet one. Treat the virality score as a sorting aid, not a forecast.

Prices as of 8 November 2026

StreamLadder’s upgrade page lists Starter at $15 a month, Creator at $27 and Pro at $39, or $150, $270 and $390 a year, alongside a free plan. Those figures were read from one signed-out, US-dollar render of the page, because a plain text fetch returns only a title. The page does not say whether tax or region changes them.

The upgrade page names the tiers Free, Starter, Creator and Pro. Older third-party articles give different tier names and much older prices, so we do not repeat them.

Pay particular attention to Creator against Starter, because ClipGPT is the reason most streamers would pay and it starts on Creator. Our StreamLadder pricing page has the full plan table and cost maths.

Watermarks: a two-level rule

StreamLadder’s watermark rule has two levels, according to the homepage FAQ: “Basic editing never adds a watermark, on any plan”, and Starter-level Clip Editor features used on the free plan add a watermark, removable by starting the trial or upgrading. The open question is which features count as basic. The page does not list them, so before relying on the free plan, export a test clip with the exact features you intend to use. See free AI clippers without a watermark for how other tools state it.

Refunds and cancelling

StreamLadder’s refund policy, updated 23 October 2026, gives narrow windows tied to whether you have used the product.

Payment Window Condition
Monthly 48 hours after payment You have not used StreamLadder since the payment
Yearly 14 days after payment You have not used StreamLadder since the payment
Yearly renewal 48 hours after renewal None

“Use” means exporting a video, running a ClipGPT project, creating or scheduling a post, or downloading a clip. The first payment after a free trial follows the same windows, and a refund of this type is available once in any 12 months. You request it with the Request a refund button under Plans & Billing, and the answer is final. Mobile subscriptions are refunded only by Apple or Google.

The practical consequence: if you cancel during the 7-day trial, you pay nothing. If you let it convert and then export a clip, that payment is likely non-refundable. Decide before day 7.

Under the terms, subscriptions renew automatically and you keep access until the end of the paid period. The terms warn that in the last 30 minutes before a renewal the payment provider may not accept a cancellation, though a recorded attempt makes that renewal refundable. Cancel earlier than that.

Rights and data

StreamLadder’s terms, last updated 23 October 2026, say you keep ownership of content you submit “for publication on our website”. The licence you grant is broad, though: non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable and worldwide, covering derivative works, “in a manner that is consistent with your privacy preferences”. It ends when you delete the content, except where StreamLadder or partners have used it in commercial or sponsored content, in which case it runs until that use is discontinued.

The terms bar using the service in a way that may infringe third parties’ intellectual property. The tool includes a Clip Downloader for Twitch, YouTube and Kick clips, so if you work with other creators’ footage, read our guide to clipping other streamers with permission.

The privacy policy says: “We do not share any user data with artificial intelligence models or third-party entities for processing or analysis.” ClipGPT is an AI feature that analyses your VOD, and the policy does not explain how that sentence applies to it, for instance whether all processing happens on StreamLadder’s own models. If that matters to you, ask support. AI training on uploads is not addressed on the pages we read.

Who should shortlist StreamLadder

  • Twitch or Kick streamers who want automatic moment-finding and a vertical editor in one browser tool.
  • Streamers who already have clips and mainly need conversion, facecam reframing and publishing, for which the free plan or a lower tier may be enough.
  • Channels with an active chat, if chat signals work as described.
  • People comfortable checking plan details inside the account before paying.

Who should not buy it

  • Anyone who wants AI clipping but cannot justify Creator’s $27 a month.
  • Streamers with very long VODs who need a published length or file-size limit.
  • Anyone who wants a vendor to state game-event detection on its current product page; see AI clippers for Twitch streamers. Eklipse makes more explicit detection claims, which are still only claims.
  • Anyone who wants a long refund window after first use.

Downsides from the published evidence

  • Free-plan usage limits and any fair-use limit on “unlimited” ClipGPT are not stated on the pages read.
  • Tier naming differs between sources.
  • ClipGPT sits above Content Publisher in the plan order, so the cheapest paid plan may not include automatic moment-finding.
  • The blog’s in-game event claim is not repeated on the current ClipGPT page.

What to check in a trial on one of your own VODs

  1. Before importing, note the plan name, its price and which features are locked, from the account itself.
  2. Import a Twitch or Kick VOD of your usual length and see whether it is accepted, and how long it takes.
  3. Run ClipGPT on a section with gameplay only, then a section with busy chat. Which one produces moments you would post?
  4. Say “clip that” during a test stream and see whether the moment appears in the batch.
  5. Check whether the facecam is found correctly in 9:16, against our facecam and gameplay layout guide.
  6. Check where captions sit relative to the killfeed and HUD.
  7. Export a clip using only free-plan features and look for a watermark.
  8. Set a reminder for day 6, then cancel or commit on purpose.
